Since I am attempting to turn this blog into something more than just recipes, here is something NOT kitchen related I would really like to share with you all!

I am excited to be participating in the Warrior Prayers 21 Days of Prayer for Sons challenge over at Brooke Mcglothlin.com. Prayer is definitely something I struggle a lot with – focusing my thoughts, removing distractions, praying with purpose. I have often reverted to writing down my prayers (much like the boy in the movie Letters to God) which has helped a lot. Something else I find helps is praying with others and challenging each other on a certain goal.

So when I stumbled across this challenge on Brooke’s twitter page, I got incredibly excited! Today was an especially challenging day with my two boys (almost 6 and 4 years old), and recently I’ve been really conscious of a struggle going on for my children’s hearts. I want more than anything for them to surrender their hearts to God, but I know that, while I am responsible for their teaching, nurturing and training, it is outside of my power to change anything – it is only by the power of the Holy Spirit at work within them.

In 1 Kings 6-7 it talks about how it took Solomon 13 years to build his palace, and 7 years to build the temple. The temple signifies our heavenly home, the palace our earthly home. Solomon completely finished the temple before he began his own house. He was so dedicated and focused on finishing the work of the LORD’s temple, that he was able to complete it much faster.  This passage really challenges me to think about my priorities – am I focused on building the work and the House of the LORD in my life? Or am I focused on building my home here on earth?

I want my focus to be on growing the hearts of my children into young men and women who are dedicated to serving the LORD and not afraid to give an answer for what they believe. That is why I am joining in this challenge, and I challenge you to do the same! Let’s let God change our hearts and the hearts of our children.

See you on your knees!
