You have kept count of my tossings;
put my tears in your bottle.
Are they not in your book?
Then my enemies will turn back
in the day when I call.
This I know, that God is for me.
In God, whose word I praise,
in the LORD, whose word I praise,
in God I trust; I shall not be afraid.
What can man do to me?
I must perform my vows to you, O God;
I will render thank offerings to you.
For you have delivered my soul from death,
yes, my feet from falling,
that I may walk before God
in the light of life.
(Psalm 56:8-13 ESV)
When trouble surrounds me – God is for me. When my strength is sapped – God is for me. When I am defeated and tired and struggling to make it through the day – God is for me.
Why do I struggle? Why do I grow weary and faint? Because me faith and my trust sight have been taken off my Lord, and put on myself.
Why do I tremble and fear that things will never change? Because I am relying on myself to change them.
Why does God care enough to keep count of my tossings, my wanderings, to grieve with what grieves me? Why does he protect me, deliver me, raise me up?
It isn’t just to save me. Oh no, but it is that I may have life, and have it abundantly. That I may walk before him in the light of life! That I may be fulfilled by him and him alone.
Thank you Lord for your word to sustain me. Thank you Lord for your deliverance from trouble and harm. Thank you Lord for not just setting me free, but setting my feet high upon the rock and giving me new and abundant life.
I have finally started my 1000 gifts journal. Here, on Multitudes on Mondays, I’ll be recording the things God has been revealing to me as a way to remind and encourage myself to give thanks to my One and Only, and to find greater joy.
- Warm November days
- A husband who seeks after God, pursuing him with his whole heart
- Nature hikes with our homeschool group
- Cereal in the early morning
- The hush and quiet over the house as everyone still sleeps, and I pray
- Morning wake up snuggles and kisses
- Sleepy-eyes looking back at me from the bed
- Smell of coffee brewing (1,000 times, yes :D)
- Oatmeal bubbling on the stove
- Kids drawing at the table, waiting for breakfast
