Well, it sure has been a while since I’ve done a Kids in the Word post! It’s not that I haven’t wanted to. But we’ve been struggling with our homeschool schedule the last few weeks months and there just hasn’t been time! Finally, the Lord laid it on my heart to change things around and this week, we’ve done 100 times better!

As I’ve mentioned in my Weekly Wrap Up posts, we are working through Pearables: The Narrow Way most mornings at breakfast. This last week’s focus has been on Allegiance (I know, big word for little minds! But I feel it is better to stretch their minds than to “dumb it down”, as a popular homeschool phrase goes :D). The main idea is being obedient and a servant. We’ve gone over the stories of the good and faithful stewards, the dishonest steward, Paul (a slave of Christ). Each day there are about 10 scripture passages to read through, then 1-2 whole chapters – we definitely do not do it all, I usually pick a couple for me or The Boy to read through to help solidify the message. We didn’t do it this morning and they were actually asking to do it! So I guess they enjoy it :0)

Also at breakfast we have been working through “How the Bible Came to Us” – again, something we are ALL enjoying very much! Today we looked at an all-encompassing timeline for major events in biblical history, and talked a bit about the culture at the beginning of the New Testament. Having just read through all the gospels, this is the most fresh in our minds for sure!

For memorization, we have been learning Proverbs 2:6 “For the LORD gives wisdom; out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.” This has been really helpful to have them memorize, especially when they come across a problem they can’t solve – they know who to ask for help!

We’ve also started learning part of Psalm 91:14-15 “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him. I will protect him because he knows my name. When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honour him.” This was one of the verses to memorize along with our morning bible study lesson.

By my husband’s leading, in just over a year we have read through the 4 gospels twice each! It’s so exciting to have the kids know the stories and parables of Jesus. We’ve now moved on to the book of Acts and are enjoying reading it together each morning.

Finally, since tonight is Awana night, I’ll fill you in on how we’ve been doing here! JJ is working on his 4 verses, then newest of which is a shortened version of John 1:3 “Through him all things were made.” The Boy just finished memorizing Psalm 23! I’m so proud of him, I am still getting it all mixed up!

We haven’t been consistently using the awana printables, but this week we’ve had time, so we have done a few activities to help solidify the verses.

If all goes well, I hope to be back next week! Thanks for checking out our Kids in the Word!
