Whirlwind weekend, as they seem to be turning into on a regular basis. Beautiful weather. Warm sunshine. Family outings. Birthday parties. Family over. Golf. Singing. Playing. Getting dirty.

By the way, does ANYONE know how on earth it is possible that there are THIS MANY BUGS out already?! Our patio is plastered in ants! I think I’ll be going back to boiling out their homes before too long to keep them out of mine!

We woke up the littlest one on her birthday morning with singing.

Initially she wasn’t too pleased, but she graciously allowed us into her chamber…once she saw we came bearing gifts :0)

She was the most thrilled with the book and sunglasses – although she got into dressing…and undressing her Rapunzel dolls a little later on.

We had no plans for a birthday party, but suddenly we were having almost 20 family members over to celebrate! SO last minute, but it was a success – despite the burger recalls we found out about AFTER they were on the BBQ. All children and pregnant ladies present received safe burgers – the rest of us ate VERY WELL COOKED ones :D

Poor little girl had had too much birthday by the time we got around to eating – 2:00 and she was ready for a nap! She made it to the candle blow-out…

…and trooped through a bit longer- good thing too because she received an amazing princess castle from hubby’s parents that captivated her immediately!

You should have heard her! Literally SQUEALING with delight!

I can see many hours of fun coming out of this.

But oh boy, now we’re in trouble. This means we have to redo her room and shift things around! Perhaps that’s our spring project for the year :D Thankfully my friend Aurie just moved her daughters’ rooms, so I’m sure I’ll get plenty of ideas :D

Speaking about moving rooms around, we also need to do something about the laundry room. It is a DIS-AS-TER! It needs to be cleaned out, and I would LOVE a new washer and dryer, but I doubt that will happen. We could really stand to replace the shelving though, BEFORE it falls out of the wall! I saw this on The Nester this morning, and it’s pretty nearly the same setup as our laundry room. I would LOVE to do this to ours!

On the study I’ve been doing through Ephesians, I had some interesting thoughts come out of chapter 5.

Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.
(Ephesians 5:31-32 ESV)

I have always thought these verses referred specifically to husbands and wives. But just last week, I saw that they are also meant to be about our relationship with Christ.

When we become believers, we leave behind what the world has to offer, and hold fast to Christ. As things come between us in our relationships with our husbands (feelings, selfishness, pride, etc.), so things can come between us and our relationship with Christ. But we are to LEAVE the world and HOLD FAST to Christ. No matter what, to deal with the things and sin that try to come between us, as we would deal with the hindrances and sin in our marriage.
Is there anything that is keeping you from holding fast to Christ? If there is, deal with it, and leave it behind!
That’s my miscellany for this Monday. Kids’ quiet time is nearly over, time to get back outdoors and enjoy the sunshine!
