Last Saturday I had the pleasure of accompanying my mother in law and sisters in law to Jazzberry Tea House in Pickering for our very first High Tea experience.

I had found a coupon on DealFind, and since I’ve always wanted to partake in a high tea, jumped on the opportunity. We were not to be disappointed!

The Jazzberry Tea House is tucked away on the outskirts of Pickering in Durham Region, just off Old Kingston Road. The shops have openings facing out toward the streets, but walking into the center of the buildings you come upon a courtyard with a patio and many shops, somewhat like an old fashioned market square – a perfect location for a tea shop!

Mother and daughter team Sheri and Natasha opened the shop up in December 2011 and have been enjoying great business ever since.  Accommodating, friendly, and knowledgeable, they have a real passion for great tea…and food!

Walking into the upstairs part there is a lovely cafe with tables set for 2-4 to sit comfortably and enjoy a pot of tea, and small patio tables near the front of the house.

Along the wall are jars and jars of teas, of all flavours and combinations.

You can choose a pot to stay or a cup to go from their menu, or buy your own loose leaf teas to bring home and brew yourself. The best part is they hand-mix the teas themselves, so they are fresher than you can imagine!

Two of my favourites were the Organic Tropical Vanilla Cream (a black, green and REAL rooibos tea) and the Organic Raspberry Honey Bush – so delish!

Along with teas they also serve coffee, cappuccinos and hot chocolate, breakfast and lunch items, as well as all decadent kinds of desserts. You can also find some great gifts here in the form of unique mugs, tea pots and cups.

Downstairs is where the high tea is hosted. Walking into the room you feel almost instantly that you have been transported into a Victorian tea room. The rooms decor speaks so well of the era that these pictures cannot do it justice!

On the table each of us had our own delicate tea pot, cups and saucers, infuser, tea spoons and forks.

The menu of teas to choose from is even more extensive than the options upstairs, but with the help of a couple samples and Natasha’s expertise, we were able to make some great choices.

Of course, in a group of 6, we shared the tea around the table so we each had an opportunity to try a different kind.

High Tea was served in the classic style with sandwiches first. Sheri came up with some delicious combinations of flavours that you would never have thought to try together! My favourite was the sun dried tomato and mango – literally a party in your mouth!

The second part comes with scones, jam and clotted cream (a thick cream, very tasty, traditionally served with scones – somewhere between butter and whipped cream), and to finish off, mini cakes. There was more than enough food to share, and in all we were quite filled by the end of it!

If you are in the GTA and are looking for a fantastic tea house to go to, I highly recommend Jazzberry!

And now until March 15th they have a fantastic High Tea deal on – 2 for the price of one! Be sure to call ahead by 24 hours to book your party (they can accomodate up to 8 for a high tea). Or feel free to drop in any time to try out their amazing teas, and make sure to tell Natasha and Sheri hello!
