Today’s post is going to be a quick one as I’ve been knocked out with a virus most of yesterday and today. I’m getting my energy back though so hopefully by tomorrow everything will be ship-shape!

Today’s featured business in 31 Days of Purchases That Make a Difference is:

The Honest Company

The Honest Company

To be honest (hee hee, yeah, I know, lame joke!), I’ve known about The Honest Company for at least a year now, but I’ve somewhat scoffed at it for one reason or another. It sounded silly and just an excuse to buy some cool looking printed diapers at a higher cost.

But in the past year while I’ve been doing research on making healthier choices for our family in what we put on our bodies (ie going no shampoo or low shampoo instead of chemical laden products, switching to less toxic chemicals and Norwex cloths for cleaning, etc.) I’ve realized that The Honest Company really has a lot to offer.

To begin with, their diapers are completely free of a list of about 30 compromising chemicals and compounds that are found in most diapers. Yes, you read that correctly: 30 chemicals and compounds.

Your Pampers and Huggies diapers smell good for a reason, folks, and it’s not a good one. Some of these materials include PVC, formaldehyde, benzene, phthalates, paprebens, triclosan, SLS (sodium lauryl/laureth sulfates), the list goes on and on. This is one main reason we switched to cloth diapers (along with the fact that my kids’ skin just did much better in cloth than plastic).

But even if you use cloth diapers, The Honest Company also has wipes that are fantastic for sensitive skin, and a plethora of other “clean” baby products to choose from. They’ve also expanded to include cleaning, health and wellness and bath and body products for the bigger people in your home.

I’m not usually convinced of something too well before I try it, so if you’re a skeptic like me, there’s a fix for that problem :D Take your pick of one of 3 Free Trials from The Honest Company – diapers and wipes, personal care and home cleaning essentials, or nutrition. If you’re not satisfied (or even if you are, but aren’t interested in participating), simply cancel your account and move on.

If you are satisfied, you can sign up for a monthly shipment of products to your home (so you don’t ever have to run out of diapers and wipes again). If you’d rather buy as you go, there’s always that option as well.

All of these products are fantastic – great for the environment, great for our bodies, and not half bad prices. But what has really impressed me about The Honest Company is their commitment to helping families – and not just their customers.

The Honest Company is partnered with non-profits who are working to solve critical health and social issues in the community. Whether it is providing essential baby supplies for families in need or monetary support to advance childhood health research, we recognize that the numbers on our financial bottom-line are not the only measure of success. To us, giving back time, money, and product are measures of equal importance.

We are committed to both individual and corporate social responsibility – taking selfless actions that benefit others. This includes charitable partnerships, working with advocates on promoting policy changes that better protect our children and planet, and supporting the efforts of our employees with paid community service days and direct matches of non-profit donations.”

So if you haven’t already, check out The Honest Company, sign up for one of their free trials, and start making purchases that make a difference!
